Google AI and its hallucinations, Dresden Regional Court prohibits hallucinations by Google AI
The Google search engine has recently started using a summary generated by artificial intelligence, which it places at the top of its search results.
Many users of the search engine rely on these summaries and, as is often lamented, no longer go directly to the search results provided.
However, these AI-generated summaries are subject to considerable uncertainty.
In one specific case, the search engine returned an AI-generated result for the search term ‘XYZ insolvent’ for the company XYZ, stating that the company XYZ was insolvent, which was allegedly confirmed by several sources. However, XYZ was not insolvent in any way, and the sources did not state this either.
Despite a warning, Google did not remove this result.
On 18 July 2025 (EV 3 O 1420/25), the Dresden Regional Court issued a preliminary injunction without a hearing at the request of the company, prohibiting the search engine from making such claims. The preliminary injunction (not yet final and subject to appeal) is currently being served in Ireland.
